Running ROMs on the emulator that is downloaded from pirated sites is, however, illegal, and I strictly advise against it. It is developed by over 200 volunteer developers that have helped shape the emulator over the years. Github host the entire code for collaborative development. The code base of the emulator is legal and is a part of open-source development.
